TURBOCHARGER

Mike DeMoss of Forward Motion supplied a custom Enforcer 1 (Garret T3/T4) hybrid turbocharger. It's a T3 (.63 A/R) Chrysler turbine section mated to the larger T04E compressor section, running a 2.003-inch (51 mm) diameter inducer and a 3.200-inch (81 mm) diameter exducer, also known as a  "46 trim."

This combination offers low inertia and the fast boost response of the T3 with the higher flow of the T4 compressor delivering the desired horsepower, torque and throttle response. for the heavier minivan application.

Ironically, the TO4E was originally designed by Garret for long-haul diesel truck use. It is an incredible compressor, running close to 75% efficiency across most of the engine's planned operating range from a low of 3-to-6 PSI to a over-boosted high of 16-to-18 PSI.

This means charge air heating is minimal (reducing intercooler size) and the shaft power requirement of the compressor is low, making the turbo fairly lag-free and allowing a free-flowing turbine wheel and exhaust housing to be used. This helps reduce power-robbing and heat-generating backpressure caused by more restrictive turbine wheels.

A 2.5-inch swing-valve is used. Rick Diogo supplied a custom 3-inch down pipe.

A 3-inch Random Technology Super High Flow catalytic converter  feeds a 3-inch JRB/FWD Performance mandrel-bend exhaust system.

With both oil and water cooling,  post-shutdown cooling of the turbo shaft bearings and center housing provides "peace-of-mind" without resorting to electronic shutdown timers.
